Why Entertainment News is Important

Hello! Welcome to my first blog. My name is Sidney and I am a senior double majoring in public relations and journalism at The University of Oregon. During my years in college, I have been involved in Allen Hall Public Relations, a student-run show, Duck TV, and worked with numerous clients managing their social media platforms.

I always emphasize the impact of entertainment news on people to who question my overconsumption of pop culture. Pop culture events are what shape generations and society. It’s what persuades people to dress the way they dress, have specific humor, or watch a Kansas City Chiefs game when they don’t typically watch football.

Pop culture perfectly intertwines with the social platforms that the masses binge daily. Algorithms online conform groups of people to laugh at the same memes, admire certain life styles, or idolize chosen celebrities, all of which fall under the umbrella of pop culture. According to a study by The University of Maine, out of the 8 billion people that live on this Earth, 4.8 billion people are using social media. This implies, that almost half of the population consumes some form of pop culture every day whether they know it or not.

While I said I love pop culture for its large impact on modern society, the real reason I love it is for the marketing that sucks me into the entertainment stories every time. People tend to give credit to the celebrities or brands that constantly stay a topic in the media, but what is most impressive is the PR team that works just as hard to keep people like me interested in those stories.

Further, with this blog, I aim to strengthen my PR mind by diving into breaking news stories and advertisement campaigns weekly.
