13 award Grammy winner, Lady Gaga not only can act and sing, but she also created a foundation to aid mental health. Lady Gaga also formally known as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, founded the “Born This Way Foundation” with her mom, Cynthia Germanotta, in 2012. The foundation claims to “create a kinder and braver world” for youth by offering mental health resources and services.
Germanaotta has openly talked about her experience with bullying, especially during her time in school. She confessed on The Late Late Show, “I got good grades when I was younger and then around my junior year my grades sort of tanked and I was really bullied my whole life.” Germanaotta wanted to create her foundation over 11 years ago to help kids who experienced similar negative school interactions because she wished she had the same outlet when Germanoatta was getting bullied.
In May of 2023 (during Mental Health Awareness Month), Germoanoatta partnered with TimelyCare, a virtual health and well-being provider for students, to create a “Be There Certificate” which is a free online mental health course to support and educate students dealing with their mental health. The online course is available in English, French and Spanish and was shared with over 1.5 million college students. After less than a month of being published, 19,000 students completed the course.
Most recently, Born This Way worked with the clothing brand, Cotton On. From September 1st to October 10th, 100% of net proceeds from the Cotton On Foundation products will go towards the Born This Way fund which will support mental health resources and services.
Outside of Germanotta’s foundation, she donated 127.9 million dollars to WHO and Global Citizen in 2020 for the One World campaign that worked towards COVID-19 relief.
